Stack Digital Case Study:
McVeagh Fleming

McVeagh Fleming is a comprehensive legal practice offering a range of legal services, including corporate and commercial law, property law, litigation, and specialised practice areas.

The challenge.

McVeagh Fleming had a clear business strategy, driving forward toward a modern, progressive firm, however the team needed assistance with identifying and defining the digital technology to help reach its goals.

The business change and cutover to new technologies had to be seamless with no down-time. The business benefit included:

  1. New Secure Access Edge, for easy secure access from anywhere
  2. Fast reliable networking
  3. A complete upgrade of core applications and End User Compute
  4. An optimised support and operating model

“Stack Digital quickly understood exactly what we wanted to achieve. The transformation roadmap was clear, including the investment required. We achieved the agreed outcomes on time, within budget and the quality was not compromised.”

How Stack Digital helped.

Stack Digital worked with McVeagh Fleming partners and management team members to identify current state challenges and define the digital target state in clear concise language.

  1. A review and Current State assessment across technology, financial, commercial, process and capability.
  2. Identification of Target State technology enablers, aligned with business goals. Thisincluded an operating model, with updated people, process, and technology acrossall major digital functions.
    1. Productivity (including document management)
    2. Practice Management
    3. Customer Relationship Management
  3. A Prioritised Digital Roadmap, with key technology enablers, proposed operating model updates and high-level definition of all programs of work.
  4. Investment Envelope. Early financial forecasts to enable the partnership to haveclear ‘line of sight’ of the size of investment required.
  5. For core aspects of the target state, procurement activity was managed by Stack, providing the firm assurances that they would be receiving good ‘value for money’.
  6. Implementation of technology and business change. Whilst a key component of the change was technology, the most important part of the change was ensuring the business process change was embedded within the company culture.
Recommendation.
  1. Simplify. Simplify vendor engagements, standardise on devices and consolidate funding models.
  2. Cloud first. Not simply as a ‘slogan’, but ‘Software as a Service’ (SaaS) as a keyenabler of simplicity; Always on, access anywhere and elastic.
  3. Long term flexibility. Gain access to the latest software features, enable consumption to grow and shrink quickly.
  4. Mobility. Enable more productivity and flexibility by delivering secure seamless digital solutions, from anywhere in the world
The results.

Expectations were exceeded, with on time, under budget delivery. The positive business impacts have superseded expectations and the team at McVeagh Fleming can now continue to extract more value from the investment.

The transformation has delivered client and staff benefits, and McVeagh Fleming is now well positioned to capture further technology advances, such as Artificial Intelligence.
